How to Plan a Valentine’s Day Date Alcohol-Free
Valentine’s Day is coming up! I’ve always loved this holiday. I think it’s because it is something bright, colorful, and sweet to break up the long winter. And then of course there’s the chocolate. Need I say more?
Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate our love - with our partner, friends, family members. The thing is, like Christmas or NYE, this holiday can be weighed down with this unnecessary feeling like we need to have alcohol to celebrate. But we don’t! I’ve talked about why we need to stop glamorizing alcohol, including around the holidays, and how to change your thinking around it.
This is my fifth Valentine’s Day without alcohol, and while I would have previously leaned on a bottle of champagne as the way to celebrate, living alcohol-free has led me to a newfound creativity in how I organize a date night for me and my husband.
I’ve compiled a list of alcohol-free date nights ideas. This list is perfect for putting together a Valentine’s, (or Galentine’s) celebration on February 14th, or honestly any other day of the year.
Looking to Celebrate Valentine’s Day Alcohol-Free? Here are 5 Creative Alcohol-Free Valentine’s Day Date Ideas!
Picnic at Home
If you are looking for something that you can do at home, I love an indoor picnic. But make sure you go all out with it. Make it special. I’m talking about a picnic basket and blanket, the whole nine yards. Bonus for lighting some candles or setting up some battery operated lights around the room. Put on some music (maybe compile a list of their favorite songs), pop open a bottle of some NA bubbles - and what a lovely, thoughtful date night! (Be sure to use code LINDSAYHENNEKEY15 for 15% off)
Bonus Tip: If you are going to be at work during the day (V-Day falls on a Friday this year) and are worried you won’t have time to prepare dinner, you can get the basket and materials ready the night before and pick up take out from a favorite restaurant on the way home.
A Well-Researched Dinner + Drinks
If your partner loves trying new restaurants, head to the internet! Find a restaurant with a legendary NA List - ideally one you’ve never been to. This will require some research, and for the case of Valentine’s Day, reservations.
Bonus Tip: Consider picking out a restaurant that allows BYOB, or in this case BYO(NA)B. Pack up a cooler with some of you and your partner’s favorite NA beers, or a bottle of NA Red from the Zero Proof. (Use code LINDSAYHENNEKEY15 for 15% off)
Pajamas, Charcuterie, and Movies - Oh my!
Step 1: Order two pairs of matching valentine’s day pajamas.
Step 2: Get all of the ingredients for a charcuterie board of their dreams (don’t forget something for dessert!) I love these pink heart-shaped ramekins that fit nicely on my large charcuterie board.
Step 3: Order a bottle of something NA that will pair nicely with your selection (Use code LINDSAYHENNEKEY15 for 15% off).
Step 5: Pick out the first movie you saw together in the theater. A thoughtful trip down memory lane.
Bonus Tip: If you want to pair this with a dinner out, you can do a dessert-charcuterie and have this be a part two of a date - especially if your partner is planning the first part of the evening!
An NA Toast with a View!
This is for those who are looking for an outdoor activity idea. If you are going to be out cross-country skiing or on a winter hike, pack along something to toast with at the top of the mountain or at the end of your adventure. It could be something warm like a thermos filled with hot chocolate, an NA hot toddy, or a bottle of bubbles.
Don’t forget something to drink out of - like these super cute camping mugs!
Bonus Tip: Pack hand warmers and some chocolate to make the view that much warmer and sweeter!
Spa Day!
Enough said. Either book a day for the two of you to spend at the spa, or if your partner is craving a little self-care time, give them this as a gift! You can make it extra-special by driving them over and picking them up afterwards.
Bonus Tip: If the spa offers a champagne toast, call ahead of time and ask if they have any NA options, and if not, ask if you can drop some off for them to serve.
Extra Bonus Tip: Pair this up with the idea above! Morning hike, afternoon at the sauna or spa!
Fun Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas
If your partner is usually the one who plans the Valentine’s Day activity, and you are looking for a good gift idea for them, here are a few I can recommend.
I got these Date Night cards for my husband as a stocking stuffer, but they make a great gift for your sweetie on Valentine’s Day, too!
Who doesn’t love Mad Libs? I love that they have a specific Valentine’s Day edition.
A bottle of their favorite NA spirit from the Zero Proof (Use code LINDSAYHENNEKEY15 for 15% off)
Make them a good old fashioned valentine - and maybe even write a poem! I love a heartfelt gesture.
I hope this post sparked some of your own creativity for ways to celebrate your love, alcohol-free!
